Dead Horse Point 死馬點州立公園 2010

原來死馬點州立公園(Dead Horse Point State Park)名稱緣由一個典故；因為這兒的地形是峽谷高原頂上一處僅約300碼 的狹長高崖，周圍都是懸岩峭壁，19世紀時高原上的偷馬賊把偷來的馬驅趕到這兒，就在銜接高原的地方圍起柵欄，馬兒就無路可跑了。之後偷馬賊選擇帶走中意的駿馬離開，被留下的馬在炎炎乾燥的沙漠氣候下缺乏食物與飲水，只能躍向壁立千仞峻崖下的科羅拉多河墜崖而死。
英文故事是不同的:
The plateau is surrounded by sheer cliffs two thousand feet high, with only a narrow neck of land (30 yards wide) connecting the mesa to the main plateau. Thus it was easy for cowboys to simply fence off this narrow neck, and keep rounded up wild horses from running away. Legend has it that one group of horses was inadvertently left fenced in and eventually died of thirst.
